There’s no better way to enjoy the picturesque scenery of Kansas City, Kansas than at the numerous parks located throughout the city. The varied topography and surroundings of the city are reflected in the diverse selection of parks. Whether you prefer to hike or bike amid the peaceful seclusion of nature or want to relax in an urban oasis, the parks of Kansas City, Kansas offer something for everyone.

Tucked away in the western part of Kansas City, Kansas awaits Wyandotte County Lake Park, a 1,500-acre park that features 16 shelters fully equipped with water and electricity. Additional park amenities include playground equipment and restrooms. The centerpiece of the park is a 400-acre lake with marina that accommodates fishing and boating.

In the heart of downtown Kansas City, Kansas is Big Eleven Lake, a 3.8-acre manmade fishing lake surrounded by picturesque terrain that’s ideal for a picnic. The park also includes an amphitheater, so you might catch a special event or performance while you’re there.

Lace-up your walking or running shoes or grab your bike and hit the trail—the Armourdale Levee Trail. The ongoing project aims to open up access to the levees along the north side of the Kansas River and the west side of the Missouri River to eventually create a 10-mile trail that will link to other trails and biking routes. So far, a 1.3-mile stretch is open under the Kansas Avenue Bridge to 12th Street in the Kansas City, Kansas neighborhood of Armourdale.

Channel your inner explorer at Lewis & Clark Park at Kaw Point, which marks the arrival point of the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1804 at the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri rivers. Today, Kaw Point is a must-see scenic stop that offers an unparalleled view of the downtown Kansas City, Missouri skyline. The park also includes trails for hiking and biking, including the Lewis and Clark Heritage Trail, which leads to Kaw Point via the historic Woodsweather Bridge. Keep an eye out for a number of wildlife species, too, including bald eagles, blue heron, falcons, fox and deer.

Need to cool off? Several spray parks are located through Kansas City, Kansas the perfect spot to stop and play. Brightly colored towers, loops and hoops are fitted with activators to trigger the spray and are low enough for children of all ages to reach. Spray park locations include Eisenhower Park (2901 N. 72nd St.), Pierson Park (1800 S. 55th St.) and Heathwood Park (North 10th Street and Parallel Parkway).
